Sorghum Flour Puttu (Cholam Puttu)

Ingredients:

1 cup Sorghum Flour

1/4 cup Grated Coconut
-
Water, as needed

Salt, to taste

Prepare the Sorghum Mixture:

Take the Sorghum flour in a mixing bowl.

Gradually add water, little by little, and mix until you get a crumbly texture.

Add salt to taste and mix well.

Steam the Sorghum Puttu:

Use a puttu maker or a cylindrical steamer.

Fill the bottom pot with water (around 1-2 inches) and bring it to a boil.

Place the cylindrical portion on top of the boiling water.

Layering:

Start with a layer of grated coconut at the bottom of the cylindrical container.

Add a layer of the prepared ragi mixture.

Continue layering alternately with coconut and Sorghum until the container is almost full, ending with a layer of coconut on top.

Steam:

Close the lid and steam for 10-12 minutes or until the Sorghum puttu is cooked. Steam should come out from the top holes.

Serve:

Gently push the steamed Sorghum Puttu out of the cylinder onto a plate.
