Pearl Millet Puttu

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Pearl Millet Flour ( Kambu Powder)

  • 1/4 cup Grated Coconut

  • Water, as needed

  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Mixture:

    • In a separate bowl, take Pearl Millet flour. Gradually add water and mix to make a crumbly texture.

    • Combine the grated coconut with the Pearl Millet flour mixture. Add salt to taste and mix well.

  • Steam the Puttu:

    • Use a Puttu maker or any cylindrical steamer.

    • Fill the bottom pot with water (1-2 inches) and bring it to a boil.

    • Layer the Puttu maker with the prepared carrot-rice mixture.

  • Layering:

    • Begin with a layer of the mixture, followed by a layer of grated coconut.

    • Repeat the layers until the container is almost full, finishing with a layer of coconut on top.

  • Steam:

    • Close the lid and steam for about 8-10 minutes until the Puttu is cooked. Steam should escape from the top holes.

  • Serve:

    • Gently push the steamed Pearl Millet Puttu out of the cylinder onto a plate.

  • Enjoy:

    • Serve hot with a side of yogurt, pickle, or any curry of your choice.

This delightful  Puttu is a nutritious twist to the traditional recipe, bringing a hint of sweetness to your plate. Enjoy this wholesome dish as a breakfast or snack option!
