Cholam (Jowar) Roti, a popular Indian flatbread

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a mixing bowl, take 1 cup of cholam (jowar) flour.
    • Add salt to taste.
    • Gradually add water and knead the flour to form a smooth, pliable dough. The dough should be soft but not too sticky. Adjust water as needed.
  2. Shape the Rotis:

    • Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
    • Take one ball and flatten it slightly using your palm.
    • Dust it with some cholam flour to prevent sticking.
    • Roll out the dough ball into a circle, about 6-7 inches in diameter. Use extra cholam flour for dusting if required.
  3. Cook the Rotis:

    • Heat a tawa (griddle) or a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
    • Place the rolled-out roti gently onto the heated tawa.
    • Cook for about 1-2 minutes or until small bubbles start to appear on the surface.
    • Flip the roti using a spatula and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
    • Press the edges gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
  4. Finish Cooking:

    • Once both sides are cooked and have light golden-brown spots, remove the roti from the tawa.
    • Optionally, you can apply a little ghee or oil on both sides for added flavor and softness.
  5. Repeat:

    • Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls to make more rotis.
  6. Serve:

    • Serve the cholam roti hot with your favorite curry, dal (lentil soup), or any side dish of your choice.
    • Enjoy the nutritious and gluten-free cholam roti!
